Why I Take Uniforms Seriously

At this point, I think readers may have noticed that I am a firm believer in the idea that an employee should be judged by the quality of his work rather than his ability to dress sharply. For those wondering why this topic is so near and dear to my heart, I would like to present this comparison:

This is me my sophomore year of college:

This is me just minutes before a job interview last week:

Same guy! Same work ethic! Same writing skills! Same people skills!  Same devastating inability to smile normally for a picture!

T.J. I’ve been reading your posts since the beginning. I very much appreciate hearing your perspectives. I had to laugh at these photos in particular. I have a 21 year old son out on job interviews. The guy he interviewed with on Monday told him to get a dark suit, white shirt and a ‘power tie’ for his second interview on Wednesday. He looked just like you (and how they wanted him to look) in the corporate world. Like you said…the look may have changed but he’s still the same smart, skillful guy on the inside.
