...For Parents of Generation Why Youth

Does she know how much I love her? Does she know how much I care?
Does she know I broke a fingernail putting that ribbon in her hair?

Do you think he even noticed that I made his favorite dinner?
‘Cause even though he lost the game, to me - he’s still a winner.

And did she stop to think about the meeting that I missed
so that I could take her shopping for the prom dress on her list?

And when he gets his homework back to find the answers were all right,
will he remember who sat next to him in the kitchen late last night?

We lent to her our car to drive, no reason - just because . . .
but I didn’t sleep a wink tonight just wondering where she was.

Do they know how much we love them? Do they know how hard we’ve tried -
to give them what we never had so they’d never feel denied?

Will they hear our voices cheering as they’re handed their degree?
As they climb that corporate ladder will they remember you and me?

As parents we've given everything to the children that we love . . .
But the kids must think the stuff they’ve got just fell from up above!

So our kids may never thank us for all that they have had -
But I’ve got a new appreciation for my mother and my dad.
