Young Employees Egotistical and Self Centered?
Brace yourself; you’re not going to believe this… According to the Associated Press, researchers in the field of psychology and behavioral science have gathered data that proves today’s teens and young adults have an inflated sense of ‘self’ and the tendency to be narcissistic. This story states that parents who’ve raised their kids to believe they are ’special’ and ‘gifted’ are largely to blame.  Further, this study claims this self-absorbed nature doesn’t bode well for Gen Whys because “people with an inflated sense of self tend to have less interest in emotionally intimate bonds and can lash out when rejected or insulted.â€

I am not sure I agree with the author, I have more faith in today’s kids. They have a higher sense of self-worth and seem to motivated to act. The sense of selfishness we see is not uncommon to what I remember when I was 18 with myself and my friends. I think it is more a condition of the young adult then the times. I am watching today’s youth venture out into the world on fire to make a difference. Many of the acts of service are truley about making a difference and helping others. My son’s graduating class of 2006 has seen an increase in those going into service related futures such as the military, health care, and teaching. They really do care about the human race and where we are headed.
