“Scouts Honor, I won’t pirate music or movies”

Boy Scouts in Southern California can now earn a merit badge for learning about the evils of downloading pirated films and music from the internet. Scouts wanting to earn this badge featuring a movie reel and a music CD must choose from a list of activities that include visiting a movie studio to see how many hard-working people can be harmed by piracy of intellectual property.

The irony here is that Boy Scouts are a popular target of liberal media types who want them to abandon the principles on which they were founded in favor of admitting girls and gay scout leaders.  And yet it’s the Boy Scouts that are rising up to help protect the rights of the very same groups who frequently ridicule them for their conservative values and ‘old fashioned’ ideals.
